Adaptive altruistic strategy in cyclic models during an epidemic

We investigate a cyclic game system where organisms face an epidemic beyond being threatened by natural enemies. As survival strategy, individuals of one out the species usually safeguard themselves approaching enemies their and performing social distancing to escape contamination when outbreak affects neighbourhood. simulate how movement strategy local surges must adapt if pathogen mutation makes disease deadlier. study spatial distribution outbreaks observe influence mortality on individuals' organisation. show that adapting for high demands altruistic behaviour since death risk increases. Despite weakening transmission chain, which benefits species, abandoning refuges provided safeguarding interaction increases vulnerability eliminated in game. Considering not all exhibit altruism, we find relative growth density as function proportion behaving altruistically. Our results may be helpful biologists data scientists understand adaptive processes can affect population dynamics complex systems.
